These four-sided spinning tops are called dreidel. They are connected to the tradition of the Jewish festival of lights, called chanukkah in Hebrew. During the eight days of the festival kids will gamble for apples, nuts or sweets with a dreidel. Wether you lose or win in a given round depends on the four Hebrew letters נ (Nun), ג (Gimel), ה (Hei) and ש (Shin) which are printed on the slider lid of the box. These letters also represent the sentence נס גדול היה פה ("Nes Gadol Hayah Poh" which translates to "A great miracle happened here").
The spinning tops are handcrafted individually from noble woods by the German artist Christoff Guttermann. Delievery includes a box made of blackened rough sawn wood and instructions for the Dreidel game.
